Former Union minister and senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Sunday said that his proposal to introduce value-based education had faced a lot of criticism as it was regarded “religious.â€

Joshi opined that the values of the country that stood the test of time had now been forgotten and there was a “hold back to our cultureâ€. He was speaking after releasing ‘Garudadhwaja,’ a biography of former State DGP, B N Garudachar, in the City.

The veteran politician, who is a former physics professor, said that the present day scenario was such that it was difficult to find a role model.

“We must not forget the contributions made by great men in the past. If we do so, we will soon have a downfall,†he added.

‘Garudadhwaja,’ edited by Gowri Sundar and Indira Sundar, is a compilation of memories that friends and relatives of the retired officer have had of him. Among the contributors to the book are theatre personality Master Hirannayya, noted musician Shyamala G Bhave and retired IPS officers K V Ravindranath Tagore and Jeevan Kumar V Gaonkar.

Referring to Garudachar, Joshi said that he was one of a kind. “He has been someone who has treated all acquaintances, be it senior or junior with respect,†the former minister added.

Garudachar  thanked all those who played a crucial role during his service.
